REAL SUCCESS STORIES FROM OUR SCHOLARS...in their own words
I first received the Take Stock in Children scholarship when I was just in the sixth grade at North Miami Middle School. All I had to do was uphold to my part of the contract which included maintaing at least a 'C' average, not being suspended from school, attending the workshops etc. In the beginning I must admit it was a little bit hard for me. I was getting in trouble at school and my grades were slipping. One day I realized that TSIC was offering me a great opportunity that I didn't want to jeaopardize. Wanting to get that 2+2 ride made me work even harder. I had a great mentor and I strived for the best! It was well worth it! TSIC did impact my life. The staff actually cares about the students futures and that was one of the most important factors to motivate myself as well as others. My father has a lot of kids and I am so blessed and thankful to my TSIC family for helping me pay for school, and provide informative info about financial aid, career and college choices etc.
I'm proud to be an Alumni!

I'm a freshman in college at the Miami Dade Honors College (Kendall campus), and to begin I guess I'll start by saying my mom always told me as a kid that if I wanted to go to college I would have to figure out a way to pay for it myself. It was just a given that she would not be able to pay for my college education. The most unique aspect of my background, and why I was chosen for the program is that both my parents are disabled; my mom is deaf and my father is blind. My mom had a really difficult time finding a job. We moved around all the time because of this - I've lived in 4 different states and moved around constantly in each of those states.
Before Take Stock I was pretty much clueless about how I was going to go to college. I was recommended for Take Stock in 7th grade. Once I got into the Take Stock program down here and started attending all the ceremonies and workshops I was truly amazed at how much they gave me. They really opened my eyes up to so many opportunites. I heard about the Honors college through them and they really pushed me to do my best in school, every day. Take Stock in Children is absolutely one of the best opportunites I could have gotten. It's not just about paying for school it's way more than that. They stay on top of you making sure you are doing your best and if, for any reason, circumstances prevent you from doing your best, they do as much as they can to allievate those circumstances.
Thanks TSIC!!

I don't even know where to begin...before I was in the program I was basically clueless. Clueless about my career, education, and even life itself. Thanks to TSIC, I am who I am today. I can stand proud amongst my peers knowing that I will achieve a higher education because thankfully, the opportunity was given to me.
My mentor was always there for me...anything I needed she was always there. She became more than a mentor; she became a part of my family. Her motherly attitude made you feel as if you were her own child. I'm so glad to have had her there for me because she is honestly the biggest person whom to thank for my success.
Thanks to the program, my parents don't have to "sell an arm or a leg" to pay for my academics. Words can't even describe how thankful they are towards everyone at the program. Never were there any troubles and as soon as I began college, the scholarship was there for me to use.
TSIC has helped me launch my dream career of becoming a federal prosecuter. One that I would never have considered possible since the expenses are so high. If this opportunity is given to you; please don't take it for granted. It's honestly, a once in a lifetime chance that many students wish they could acquire.
Thank you TSIC for everything that has been handed to me.
A million thanks!
